Trade & Last Mile

The research field Trade & Last Mile focuses on the supply of consumers with everyday goods (FMCG). The research projects consider logistic optimization tasks for various supply channels. Furthermore the team researches transport, transshipment, storage and planning processes that take place between the last point of storage and the branch or end user.

Trade & Last Mile

From a transport logistics point of view 'Last Mile' means to develop supply concepts. These concepts support flexibility with regard to storage and quantities. In addition solutions aim to enable ever-shorter delivery times (one-hour delivery).

The projects focus on choice of the distribution channel and the resulting logistical requirements. A current trend is the change of the classical distinction of distribution channels in the direction of omni-channel retailing. This requires completely new inventory and supply concepts that have to be developed.

The freedom of choice between the channels and the type of delivery has an enormous impact on the behavior of consumers. In this research field we explore this dynamic development and highlight its impact on mobility behavior of individuals. Supply concepts of retail companies and logistics service providers with a macroeconomic claim will also be met in the projects.
